Overview
The Panasonic Lumix S5 II Mirrorless Camera, designed for content creators seeking excellent stills and video capabilities, introduces a range of new features to elevate your creative process. Featuring a new sensor design and an updated processing engine with L2 technology, the S5 II is the first Lumix camera to include Phase Hybrid AF for quick and accurate autofocus. Leveraging the 24.2MP sensor and enhanced processor, it records 6K video for up to 30 minutes, with unlimited 4K video capture also supported. Specifically optimized for video, the S5 II includes a new Active I.S. system to improve image stabilization during walking shots.
New Sensor and Processing Engine
The S5 II features an upgraded 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor and a revised image processing engine with L2 technology. The sensor introduces a newly-developed Phase Hybrid AF system — a first for Lumix cameras — with 779 phase-detection points for enhanced subject tracking. Offering a broad ISO range from 100 to 51200, expandable to 50-204800, it excels in various lighting environments. The S5 II also supports high-speed shooting, offering full-resolution captures at up to 9 fps with the mechanical shutter and up to 30 fps with the electronic shutter. For enhanced detail, the sensor-shift stabilization technology enables a High Resolution mode, which combines eight exposures to produce a 96MP raw or JPEG file with a resolution of 12000 x 8000 pixels, ideal for static subjects or tripod use.
6K and 4K Video Recording
The S5 II excels in video recording, offering full-frame 6K30p with 4:2:0 10-bit color for up to 30 minutes, and unlimited DCI and UHD 4K60p 4:2:2 10-bit recording. It supports 120p slow-motion video and RAW HDMI output with an optional license. Pre-installed V-Log captures a flat gamma curve with 14+ stops of dynamic range for precise post-production color control, especially for footage shot with VariCam cameras. The camera features Dual Native ISO for optimal performance in various lighting conditions, with two dedicated circuits: a Low ISO circuit for base sensitivities of ISO 100-2000, and a Low Noise circuit for sensitivities ranging from ISO 640-4000, ensuring low noise and high sensitivity in different environments.
Body Design
- When paired with other L-Mount Alliance lenses, the L-mount system offers versatility with a 51.6mm mount diameter and a 20mm flange distance, supporting a wide variety of optics. It is also compatible with classic and modern Anamorphic lenses that have been in use for over six decades.
- The 3.68m-dot OLED EVF provides a sharp view with 0.78x magnification and supports smooth refresh rates of 60 fps or 120 fps for a high-quality viewing experience.
- The 3.0″ 1.84m-dot LCD screen is bright and clear for live view, playback, and menu navigation. Its free-angle design enables shooting from various angles, and the touchscreen functionality ensures intuitive control over settings.
- Equipped with an 8-direction joystick and a user-friendly menu system, the camera allows for quick and efficient operation.
- The USB-C port enables fast file transfers and high-speed in-camera battery charging. A full-size HDMI-A port supports video applications, while the 2.5mm port accommodates the optional DMW-RS2 Remote Shutter. Additionally, 3.5mm microphone and headphone jacks provide advanced audio recording capabilities.
- With dual UHS-II-compatible SD memory card slots, the camera offers flexibility for file management. You can separate raw and JPEG files across different cards, duplicate files on both cards, or maximize storage with overflow recording.
- Featuring an industry-first built-in cooling fan, the S5 II effectively manages internal temperature, allowing for extended or unlimited recording without overheating.
- The camera’s durable magnesium alloy body is dust and splash-resistant, designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and challenging environments.
